Analog Voltage Variable Phase Shifter Module

September 9th, 2017

This family of drop-in size phase shifters offers a 225 degree (min.) phase shift at 20 volts (max.) control voltage in various bands from 6 to 16 Ghz. They are available with field removable SMA connectors so that they can be used either as stand-alone phase shifter or installed into printed circuit boards as part of a test & measurement radar system. These phase shifters are particularly well suited for intermodulation canceling and other phase cancellation and phase comparator systems where digital phase shifters aren’t as flexible and where very precise phase control is needed for optimum performance. Typical X-band specifications: Freq. 8-12 Ghz, 5 dB max insertion loss, excellent flatness, VSWR (I/O): 2.0:1, DC control 0 to +20V, Controlled Current 5mA. Size .50 (12.7) x .78(19.71) x .22(5.59) inches/(mm).

Multi-Coupler Module

August 22, 2017

Specifying a single Multi-Coupler Module (MCM) from Microwave Solutions, Inc., instead of three separate couplers, save space by eliminating separate connectors and improve consistence performance because each coupling factor can be individually specified and the VSWR interactions between couplers can be better controlled. These Multi-Coupler Modules can be specified in a variety of different coupler combinations with coupling ranges of 3 to 20 dB, in various bands from 2 to 20 GHz,

Because they have field removable SMA connectors, further size reduction can be realized by simply removing the connectors for insertion directly on the printed circuit board. All modules have good input and output VSWR’s  and are unconditionally stable. Typical specifications for an X-band version: PORT 1-2 with Ins. Loss of 3.5dB max. PORT 1-3 with Ins. Loss of 10.2dB max. PORT 1-4 with Ins. Loss of 9.5 max. PORT 1-5 with Ins. Loss of 20.0dB max. All ports have a VSWR of 2.0:1 max. Size 1.14x.74x.22 inches (LxWxH)

Gain Control-Detector Amplifier MFM

August 3, 2017

Originally designed for radar and microwave test instrumentation, these Gain Control Detector Amplifier Multi-Function Modules (MFM) provide the gain control, amplification, and detection for an integrated automatic level control (ALC) function, all within a single package. The functions of voltage controlled gain, amplification and detection can be specified in any order as may be desired by the system designer in order to minimize noise figure or maximize overall dynamic range. The amplification inserted either ahead of or after the voltage controlled attenuation, for example. The analog control provides for more fine-grain variation than that available from digital control. As an alternative to having to specify and integrate multiple single functions components. These MFM have reduced size, improved performance and eliminate the headaches with VSWR and internal-function connections. Removable SMA connectors provide for coaxial or printed circuit board applications. Internal voltage regulation allows use with a wide range of DC supply voltages. These MFM are available in various frequency bands from 2GHz to 18GHz. Typical specifications for an X-band version: Minimum Gain is 10.5 dB with I/O VSWR of 1.5:1, 1 dB Pout is +23.0 dBm min. Noise Figure is 5.0dB max. DC power of +12.0 VDC at 150mA typ. Gain Control: 20 dB with current 0-4mA typ. Voltage Detector (Vdet) in mV set to customer specifications. Module size without connectors: .89x.74x.22 inches (LxWxH)

ESD AutoDetect Amplifier

July 12, 2017
Microwave Solutions, Inc. is introducing this low frequency amplifier operational from 225-400MHz with a built in ESD protection device, RF input power AutoDetect threshold turn on circuit and an integrated filter to attenuate adjacent or harmonically related signals. When the RF signal applied to the RF INPUT connector exceeds 0 dBm (+/-2dBm), the internal AutoDetect threshold circuit turns on the bias to the RF gain stages and also toggles the state of an internal Field Effect Transistor. Hysteresis is approximately 1 to 3dB, once the amplifier is toggled by the applied RF level crossing the threshold level, the amplifier won’t again toggle unless the threshold is again crossed by an additional 1 to 3dB. This amplifier is perfect when you just need a little boost in your system and is turn on at specific settings. Typical Gain is 15 to 18dB with Saturated Power at 34.5 dBm min. I/O VSWR is 2.0:1. The amplifier operates with +11.5 to 15VDC at 1.0 Amps max. over -20 to +71 degrees C. Size: 4.38x2.82x1.26 inches (LxWxH)

Multi-Function Module

June 26, 2017
Microwave Solutions, Inc. offers the microwave system designer with the option of specifying multiple signal control functions within a single, standard size drop-in module. Originally designed for radar and microwave test instruments, these Multi-Function Modules (MFM) can provide gain control, amplification, coupler and/or detection for an integrated automatic level control (ALC) function all within a single package. Examples include an attenuator-amplifier-coupler-detector module, a coupler-sampler module with multiple sample ports, and a coupler-coupler-detector module for both coupling and power level detection.

Advantages: A module that can be individually specified and then, separately tested and specific performance objectives are verified before insertion into a system. This provides the designer with flexibility and better control over meeting design specification targets because parameters such as gain and coupling values can either be specified as part of the initial design or left as a ‘black box’ and then revised when the exact performance criteria are determined after the system printed circuit board is completed. The removable SMA connectors allow for testing and verification in a coaxial system and then, with the connectors removed, the module is placed into a printed circuit board based system. Also, improved isolation between different modules because each module is individually housed. Also, certain functions might be better realized using a different substrate other than the motherboard. Sizes vary on functions required.

4.4-5.0 Dual Scan Converter

January 28, 2016
Microwave Solutions, Inc. Dual Scan Converters operate in various narrow frequencies within the 1.4 to 5.0 GHz and in 4.4 to 15.4 GHz. The Insertion Loss is 2.0 dB max on the main port. Couple Port 1 is 12dB min/14 dB max and Port 2 is 12dB min/14 dB max. The Phase Switching at “ON” is  +180 degrees (+/-10 degrees) relative to the “OFF” position that is 0 degrees (+/- degrees). The units require a phase offset of about 1cm on input of main line port. The VSWR are 1.8:1 at all ports. At “ON” they require +12VDC with 5mA min to 25mA max. At “OFF” they require -12VDC max with 0mA typ. These Dual Scan converters are ideal for antenna tracking and target acquisitions.
